How to tune with True Temperament

 
 

Using a tuner:

Download the ClearTune application to your phone or tablet or use another tuner with precise indications of pitch in equal temperament by cents. Tune the open strings using the TT-Offsets. If you want to use a different calibration than A4 440 go to settings and enter the required Hz.

By Ear:

Always tune by octaves or primes. Do not use harmonics!.

For example:

  1. 5th string (A) → 3rd string (A, 2nd fret)

  2. 3rd string (G) → 1st string (G, 3rd fret)

  3. 5th string (D, 5th fret) → 4th string (D, open)

  4. 4th string (D) → 2nd string (D, 3rd fret)

  5. 4th string (E, 2nd fret) → 1st string (E, open)

  6. 4th string (E, 2nd fret) → 6th string (E, open)
